Juice up

If you use a smartphone or tablet as an educational tool/parental sanity device while out and about, we have two words of advice for you: juice up. Easier said than done, granted – especially when simply getting out of the house feels like a monumental achievement. The good news is that portable back up batteries are better and cheaper than they’ve ever been. Shrewd investment we’d say.

If you’re running out of ideas for child-friendly apps and games, here are three free ones that we’ve found pretty handy. P.s. We’re in no way affiliated with the creators of these apps.

Lego Duplo Train

Driving the colorful LEGO train from station to station is any toddler’s dream. Your child will play the role of the train driver, load cargo, build bridges, stop at crossings, help passengers, refuel, and lay new tracks to steer the train safely around obstacles. All aboard!

Toca Kitchen Monsters

In this edition of the super-hit Toca Kitchen your kids can cook and play with food for two hungry monsters. They’ll be able to pick any ingredient and prepare it in their own way. Slice, boil, fry, cook, microwave or mix? And wait for the response from the hungry monster.

Download it for iOS here.

Poptropica

The story-based game allows kids to customize their own character, decorate their clubhouse, and begin adventures on the exciting islands of Poptropica. We think they’ll love taking on daring quests, discovering new islands, and being the hero of their own story.
